Hands-On Learning in the Hospitality Industry
As part of the Hospitality & Tourism Management program, all students are required to complete a minimum of 1,000 hours of work in the service industry. While this may sound daunting, FAU’s staff works to ensure that all students are placed in positions that are a perfect fit for their future needs and current skillsets.
These hours of learning may include internships, paid jobs or work with family businesses—including opportunities to learn outside of the U.S. during breaks.

Fund Your Education
FAU and its partner organizations offer numerous scholarships to help students fund their educations. Many of these funding opportunities are available to high-achieving international students to help offset the cost of studying at FAU. Students must apply for these scholarships, which range in competitiveness.
A sampling of available scholarships includes:
- The Heiko Dobrikow Family Scholarship Fund – Available to any full-time Hospitality & Management student with a GPA of 3.25 or above.
- The HSMAI South Florida – Dr. Peter Ricci Scholarship – Available to any undergraduate Hospitality & Management student with a 2.8 GPA or higher.
- The Brudzinski Scholarship – A need-based scholarship awarded to students who have completed the FAFSA, achieved a 2.5 GPA or higher and currently attend the Hospitality & Management program at 50% time or more.

Academic certifications allow students to highlight particular skills in the field of their choosing as they complete their BBA degree. These certifications offer candidates a leg up on the job market that has proven useful when competing against similarly qualified individuals.

The certifications in Club Management and Meetings & Event Management are particularly useful for students interested in private club and operations management. However, students may receive academic minors in nearly any field of their choosing.
